What Happened

During public celebrations following Spain’s World Cup victory, part of the Fuente del Árbol Gordo collapsed while people were standing on and gathered around it.

A 13-year-old boy was struck and trapped by falling stonework. He was transported to the Ciudad Rodrigo health centre, where his death was confirmed.

At least one other person was confirmed injured. Several established reports state that two other people were injured, while one report states that three other people were seriously injured.
