What Happened

At about 22:00, a white motor vehicle was driven along Ahornsteig in the Großer Tiergarten and struck several people before colliding with a tree. Prosecutors subsequently stated that the suspected driver also injured several people with a bladed weapon.

One woman died on the evening of the incident. Later reporting placed the total number of injured people at 29, replacing early figures of 16 or 17.

The suspected attacker was separately killed during a police operation on 26 July. That death has not been included in the crowd-incident fatality count.

Programme Terminated

Event status: The Christopher Street Day closing programme at the Brandenburg Gate was terminated at approximately 22:15.

A band performance was interrupted, and attendees were instructed to leave calmly, avoid the Tiergarten and Victory Column direction, and disperse towards safer routes.

The vehicle impact location was later described as outside the secured festival ground, although it was situated on the fringes of the celebration area and close to routes used by attendees.
