At approximately 6 p.m. on 26 July 2026, gunfire occurred outside the Seattle Center Armory during the final evening of Bite of Seattle. Seattle Police initially described two people exchanging gunfire, while the later investigation indicated that more people and more firearms were involved.
Seven people were struck by gunfire. Three people died: a 19-year-old man, a 44-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman. Four additional victims survived, including a 2-year-old boy; later reporting stated that all surviving patients had been released from hospital.
The shooting caused rapid, uncontrolled movement away from the affected area. Festivalgoers ran or sheltered, vendors abandoned stalls and emergency personnel cleared the area. The evidence supports the practical end of the remaining festival activity, although no contemporaneous organiser announcement using the exact wording “festival cancelled” was identified.

Bite of Seattle is an annual public food and cultural festival. Seattle Center's official 2026 listing scheduled the event for 24–26 July, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with more than 300 vendors and numerous musical performers.
Because the shooting occurred at about 6 p.m., approximately two hours of the published Sunday programme remained. Crowd evacuation and the abandonment of vendor operations effectively displaced the remainder of the event.

How the Account Developed
Initial emergency reporting changed as casualty outcomes, witness accounts, police findings and court material became available. The later formulations below are used where the evidence became more specific.
Early emergency reporting described two deaths and five injured people. One of the injured victims later died, changing the final casualty formulation.
