At least a dozen people were crushed to death in a Mexico City nightclub, as panicked youths rushed for the exits during a police raid Friday evening, the capital’s police chief said.
In three years of operation, the News Divine nightclub had been shut down twice. The most recent at the beginning of the year, reported neighbors of the place. According to the Secretary of Public Security, Joel Ortega, the operation was carried out together with the Judicial Police, and blamed the owner for causing a stampede, complaining on the microphone of the police presence.
The head of government of the Federal District, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, demanded a transparent investigation, open to society, and punishment of who or who is responsible for the death of at least 12 people in the News Divine nightclub, located in the Gustavo A. Madero delegation, who perished during a police operation to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages and drugs to minors.
