China tries 23 over Christmas disco blaze

BEIJING, China — Twenty-three people have gone on trial in China for their role in a disco fire last December in which 309 people died.

All the 309 people killed in the fire which occurred Monday evening in central China’s Henan Province were suffocated, sources said Tuesday, December 26.

A Christmas night inferno in a four-storey building has claimed at least 311 lives in Luoyang, the capital of the central Chinese province of Henan. More than 50 other victims are being treated in hospital for burns and smoke inhalation.
