Mansa Devi Temple Incident 27/06/2025
On 27 July 2025, a crowd surge on the narrow pedestrian route to the Mansa Devi Temple in the pilgrimage city of Haridwar turned deadly amid the busy Shravan (Sawan) pilgrimage period. Thousands of devotees were ascending the stairway when panic spread after a rumour circulated that an electric wire had snapped and was electrified on the path. The fear triggered an uncontrolled rush, and the bottlenecked stairway quickly became a scene of crushing. At least eight people were killed and around 30–35 were injured as worshippers were trampling and pushing in the narrow space. Officials later clarified that there was no confirmed live electric fault, and authorities launched rescue operations, opened an investigation, and ordered safety reviews of temple access routes.
