The Dance Bar 6‑9 fire occurred in 1976 at a nightclub in La Louvière, Belgium and resulted in the deaths of 15 people, with around 40 others injured. The fire began during a power outage, when cigarette lighters were used inside the club. These open flames ignited the nightclub’s paper and plastic party decorations, which were highly flammable. Once ignited, the decorations allowed the fire to spread rapidly, creating dense smoke and extreme heat that trapped many of the patrons inside. The combination of combustible materials, poor escape routes, and the suddenness of the fire contributed to the high number of casualties. The incident is remembered as a significant example of how inadequate fire safety measures and flammable interior decorations can turn an emergency into a deadly disaster.
