Liverpool Victory Parade 2025

On 26 May 2025, what should’ve been a massive celebration of Liverpool FC’s Premier League triumph turned into chaos when a man drove his car into a crowd on Water Street in central Liverpool shortly after the end of the official parade. Thousands had gathered for the open-top bus procession; roughly ten minutes after it passed, Paul Doyle, a 54-year-old local, steered his Ford Galaxy into spectators, injuring more than 130 people, including children, with scores taken to hospital. Witnesses and later court evidence showed him accelerating into the crowd and shouting at people to “move”, causing widespread panic and serious injuries. Police arrested him at the scene and the attack was unequivocally treated as a deliberate act, not terrorism.

In the legal aftermath, Doyle pleaded guilty in November to 31 offences including dangerous driving and multiple counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. On 16 December 2025 he was sentenced to 21 years and six months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court, where the judge described his actions as driven by “inexplicable and undiluted fury”. The incident left a lasting scar on what had been one of the city’s proudest sporting moments and prompted ongoing discussions about public safety at large-scale celebrations.
